about me

Hello! My name is Janine. I am a lecturer, researcher and translator.

I hold a BA in Modern Languages and Literatures (English and German Studies) as well as a Master's degree in Linguistics from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Ever since my Master's programme I have been interested in lexical resources for translators. In 2012 I received a PhD in Translation Studies from the University of Montreal. Throughout my PhD I worked as a research assistant at Observatoire de linguistique Sens-Texte and taught graduate students. After completing my PhD I taught graduate and post-graduate courses in translation at the University of Montreal.

I have lived in Rio de Janeiro since 2013. I came here to do post-doctoral research at PUC-Rio and in 2014 I was offered a permanent post at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. I currently teach undergraduate and graduate courses on translation.

My research has focused on the compilation of specialized dictionaries for translators. I am also interested in specialized translation, in translation pedagogy and in translation theories. I am fluent in Portuguese, English, French and German.
