JuriDiCo Fundamental dictionary on the law

Coordinator: Janine Pimentel

The JuriDiCo is a database that describes the legal terminology that can be found in a comparable corpus of judgments produced by the Supreme Court of Canada and by Supremo Tribunal de Justiça de Portugal. The database was elaborated according to the theoretical and methodological principles of FrameNet (Ruppenhofer et al. 2010) and is also partly based on the methodology for compiling specialized dictionaries developed in DiCoInfo (L’Homme 2008). Some minor modifications were made in the DiCoInfo’s database, namely the insertion of a field called frames. For thetime being, JuriDiCo only includes specialized verbs, which were extracted by means of TermoStat (Drouin 2003) and subsequently validated. 200 English and Portuguese terms entries are currently available online as well as about 40 frames that group together not only equivalent terms but also semantically related terms within each language. JuriDiCo allows users to search terms, equivalent terms and frames.

DiCoInfo Fundamental dictionary on computing and the Internet

Coordinator: Marie-Claude L’Homme

The focus of this project is the description of the fundamental terms of computer science (e.g. to configure, program, computer, digital). All descriptions are based on a corpus of approximately 1,000,000 words. Using a list of lexical specificities generated by TermoStat (developed by Patrick Drouin), terminographers select entries using a series of lexico-semantic criteria. The senses are then distinguished using lexico-semantic tests (e.g. differential and compatibleco-occurrence, morphological derivation, etc.). The form of the articles in the dictionary is largely based on Explanatory and Combinatorial Lexicology (ECL) models: 1. Each term comes with a description of its actantial structure (e.g. x installs y on z), and the actants are gathered in semantic categories (e.g. x(user) installs y(tool) on z(permanent medium)); 2. The semantic paradigmatic and syntagmatic relations shared by the dictionary’s terms are represented by lexical functions.

DiCoEnviro Fundamental dictionary on the environment and climate change

Coordinator: Marie-Claude L’Homme

The DiCoEnviro (Dictionnaire fondamental de l’environnement) is a novel specialized dictionary which contains basic terms in the field of the environment. The compilation of the records, like in the DiCoInfo, is based on the theoretical principles and the methodology of Explanatory Combinatorial Lexicology (ECL). The annotation of the contexts is based on the methodology developed for the FrameNet project. The online version is encoded in XML format. Thisproject was carried out with the collaboration of Guy Lapalme, RALI, Benoît Alain, Patrick Baril-Robichaud, Patrick Drouin, Marie-Ève Laneville, Benoît Robichaud and Vincent St-Amour. Records and annotations pertaining to the climate change field are currently available.
